The New York Times Co. Thursday reported an 8.2% increase in 1996 second-quarter net income of $46.8 million. For the first six months, net income rose 12.6% to $79.5 million. Revenues for the second quarter were $645.2 million, a 5.8% increase; revenues for the first six months were $1.27 billion, up 7.3%. Newspaper Group revenues for both the quarter and six months was up, the company said, due primarily to higher advertising and circulation revenues as a result of higher rates offset by softness in advertising and circulation volume.
