TimesLink moving off Prodigy

Published on .

The Los Angeles Times said it will move its TimesLink online service from Prodigy to the World Wide Web early next year. The newspaper cited the rise in popularity for the move, which may also involve renaming the service.

TimesLink, which launched last year, has 21,000 subscribers. Much of the content on the Web will be free.

As a Web service TimesLink will continue to offer much of the same editorial features as it did on Prodigy, with the addition of links to other Web sites and additional content from other units of Times parent Times Mirror Co.

TimesLink will cut its staff by 50% to 22 as a result of the move to the Web.
