TN German buy announced

True North Communications, as expected, is acquiring German-based Wilkens/International. The Wilkens network, the former Ayer Europe Network, is comprised of owned and affiliated agencies in 19 European countries, TN said; 1996 gross media billings were $754 million, gross income was $65 million. There are 500 employees. Its major clients include: Beiersdorf, SEAT, Hero, Lindt, Cadbury and Panasonic. Neither the purchase price nor details of the sale were disclosed. Wilkens Chairman Richard Hedger, CEO Holger Uhlhorn and Andrew Stewart, its chief financial officer, will retain those posts and report to London-based True North Communications International President Harry Reid.
