TN reports first-quarter profit

True North Communications, Chicago, reported first-quarter net income of $3.7 million on revenue of $280 million, reversing a $1 million loss in the quarter a year ago, when revenue was $266 million. True North posted a full-year loss in 1997 due to charges related to its acquisition of Bozell, Jacobs, Kenyon & Eckhardt.
