New top execs at Burger King

Published on .

Grand Metropolitan named Dennis Malamatinas, 41, CEO of Burger King Corp., an appointment Grand Met said reflects the "absolute priority" it now places on Burger King's international growth. To run North American operations, Grand Met promoted BK's senior VP-worldwide marketing, Paul Clayton, 38, to the new post of president, Burger King, North America, reporting to Mr. Malamatinas. Since joining Grand Met in 1989, Mr. Malamatinas has held a series of senior posts in Grand Met's international drinks businesses, most recently as executive director and president of International Distillers & Vintners, Asia Pacific, Grand Met's Asian drinks business based in Hong Kong. Mr. Clayton, a 12-year veteran at Burger King, has held the worldwide marketing post since 1993. Mr. Malamatinas succeeds Robert C. Lowes as BK CEO; Mr. Lowes is leaving both Grand Met and BK. Grand Met Group Chief Executive John McGrath assumes the chairmanship of Burger King Corp.
