Top marketer exits Burger King

Published on .

Burger King Corp., Miami, is losing its top marketing executive to the wine industry. James Watkins, 43, senior VP-North American marketing, is leaving the fast-food company after two years for the newly-created post of exec VP-chief operating officer of Beringer Wine Estates Holdings, St. Helena, Calif. Burger King President Paul Clayton will handle marketing duties while a search is under way for a successor to Mr. Watkins. Mr. Watkins said his departure had nothing to do with softening sales at the nation's second-largest restaurant chain. He told Advertising Age Aug. 18 that BK's relationship with agency Ammirati Puris Lintas, New York, is on solid ground.
