The Ingram Partnership and has just made his first two London acquisitions, buying Unity, a small strategic media agency, and The Gathering, a brand consultancy.

Unity is one of three hot London media shops that do communications strategy rather than media buying. The others are Michaelides & Bednash, which opened a New York office two years ago, and Naked, which plans to launch here later this year with creative agency Mother.

"It's a new sector, relatively small at the moment," Mr. Ingram said. "I'm looking to build the communications strategy side. We're not going to be implementing or buying spots, but we will work with clients on their brand strategy."

Considering U.S. office
Mr. Ingram said he expects to open a U.S. office at some point, but there are no immediate plans.

The Ingram Partnership acquired the two shops for 50% cash and 50% stock. Mr. Ingram said he is spending $16 million of his own money to launch the new company. The other founding partners include ex-McKinsey management consultant Ditlev Schwanenflugel; Duncan Bruce and Marc Cox from The Gathering; and Ivan Pollard and Andy Tilley from Unity.
