SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) -- Tech-marketing shop Townsend Agency is opening offices in the fast-growing Irvine, Calif., area.

The shop is the latest to plant a flag in the area between Los Angeles and San Diego that has become home to a burgeoning ad business anchored by car accounts such as Ford Motor Co. as well as a number of technology and telecommunications companies.

Neil McQueen, Townsend's executive vice president for brand marketing and creative director, will head the Orange County office.

Townsend clients in San Deigo include Stellcom, a wireless integration company, and ARM, a semiconductor intellectual property company. The shop has 40 people in San Diego.
