Tricon Global Restaurants, Louisville, Ky., said all its brands are performing well at the same time for the first time in five years. The brands -- Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell -- were spun off from PepsiCo last October and each has had ups and downs over the past few years. Tricon said all have posted same-store sales increases in the low-to-mid-single-digit range so far this quarter, which ends Sept. 5. Combined, the chains spent about $300 million in national advertising last year. KFC's relaunch of its Extra Crispy chicken this month and Taco Bell's addition of a new all- white-meat chicken line have helped lift sales, the company said.
