Tricon launches promo for fast-food brands

Published on .

Tricon Global Restaurants this week is kicking off its first promotion involving all three of its fast-food brands, KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut, for the National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball playoffs and the Final Four matches.

KFC has a free commemorative cup with the purchase of a $2.99 value meal, an offer it will tout via a new 30-second TV spot from Y&R Advertising, New York.

Taco Bell has two new :30s from TBWA/Chiat Day, Venice, Calif., to support its basketball promotions, which include theme cups, five Kids Meals toys and a contest.

Pizza Hut will use local NCAA team-theme spots for its promotion, which includes a $15 gift coupon toward the purchase of $50 in merchandise from Foot Locker, good with the purchase of the chain's Edge pizza. All promotions run through late next month.

Tricon declined to say how much it is spending on the project.
