TRUE NORTH SHAREHOLDERS APPROVE PURCHASE BY INTERPUBLIC

(June 19, 2001) -- Shareholders of True North Communications voted overwhelmingly to approve the company's acquisition by Interpublic Group of Cos. In a brief meeting held this morning in Chicago, 66% of eligible shareholders cast votes, approving the stock-swap with Interpublic by 97.3%. The deal -- worth $1.72 billion at Interpublic's $29.65 closing price Monday -- is expected to close by month's end. -- Mercedes Cardona
