Turkish media halt most TV, radio ads

Published on .

The majority of Turkey's TV and radio channels stopped airing commercials immediately following the devastating Aug. 17 earthquake that has claimed thousands of lives. "I do not think we will see any entertaining commercials and press ads for some time to come. This is a time of national mourning," said Hulki Aktunc, chairman of the Advertising Agencies Association in Turkey. He said the AAA is launching an aid campaign with a $10,000 donation and is calling all members for contributions. "There are no reports of casualty or physical damage from [AAA] members," Mr. Aktunc added.
