Turner, Murdoch rift

Published on .

The official response is "no comment," from both Turner Broadcasting System and Time Warner over the escalating personal battle between News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch and Time Warner Vice Chairman Ted Turner. Privately, however, sources in both organizations say executives are incensed. A headline in Monday's New York Post, owned by Mr. Murdoch, blared "Is Ted Turner nuts? You decide" and a cartoon depicted Mr. Turner wrapped in a straitjacket.

Said Time Warner spokesman Ed Adler: "It's no surprise. They've been doing that all along." Added a Turner executive privately: "It shows the differences in the way we handle journalism and the way they do."
