Former Turner sales head Barbera to lead 24/7 online ad network

AMSTERDAM--The international online advertising sales representative company 24/7 Europe has appointed John Barbera, former president of Turner Broadcasting Sales Worldwide, to the post of chief operating officer to take over the daily running and expansion of 24/7's core European business.

Based at its Amsterdam office, Mr. Barbera will be responsible for 24/7 Europe's online sales network across 12 European markets. He will work alongside CEO Gordon Simpson and former chief operating officerXavier Jane, who becomes deputy chief executive.

Mr. Barbera, who was part of the original team hired by Ted Turner in 1978 to launch the first commercial satellite TV network, worked with Turner for more than 16 years, helping to grow ad revenues into a $1billion worldwide operation with 550 employees in nine offices throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia. He was responsible for nine Turner networks including CNN, TNT, Cartoon Network and CNN International, setting up CNN's global sales operation. In 1994, Mr. Barbera founded his own consultancy specializing in TV, cable and Internet convergence for clients like CNET and Liberty Media.
