"We know that the museum works and that there is an interest," said museum President Bob Batscha. "All of these initiatives complement that concept of the museum being not only a national but, potentially, an international cultural institution."
The Los Angeles museum branch, scheduled to open March 18, 1996, will duplicate the New York collection.
The New York museum has also launched a World Wide Web site (http://www.mtr.org) to allow users virtual tours of the museum and to provide screening, seminars and other information.
In addition, the museum will make its database available via TV Guide Online, and has created an electronic Museum Shop through a retailing association with QVC to begin next month.
In celebration of radio's 75th anniversary, the museum this fall will inaugurate a two-week Annual Radio Festival to promote an appreciation for radio's contributions to culture. This year's seminar participants will include Rush Limbaugh, Garrison Keillor and Casey Kasem.
The museum has joined with Viacom's Nick at Nite to launch a major national campaign to increase awareness of the importance of TV program preservation. It will seek out "lost" episodes of classic programs for preservation.
Starting in November, the museum will present a 10-part satellite-fed National University Satellite Seminar Series to more than 100 U.S. universities.
