TW expands phone service

BellSouth and Time Warner Communications have signed a two-year agreement allowing Time Warner to begin providing local phone service in the BellSouth region by yearend. While the agreement applies to the entire nine-state BellSouth region, Time Warner has plans to upgrade its cable networks in order to provide local phone service in Florida, North Carolina and Tennessee. Time Warner has been offering local service in Rochester, N.Y., for the past year, relying primarily on direct mail to market the service.
