U.K. agency boss to run Universal McCann in E/A/ME

LONDON - Universal McCann has named Ben Langdon, chairman and chief executive of McCann-Erickson U.K. Group, as successor to Robin Kent in the role of regional director for Europe/Africa/Middle East, the agency's largest region.

Mr. Langdon, whose advertising background is in account and agency management, will take on the additional role without relinquishing any current responsibilities.

Mr. Kent, 45, has been promoted to the newly created position of president of Universal McCann, the media arm of McCann-Erickson Worldwide, where he will be No. 2 to Chairman Ira Carlin, 52.

Mr. Langdon's wider remit reflects the network's attempts to pull together creative, strategy and media, says a spokeswoman. "We're finding clients are demanding that."

Despite his non-media background, Mr. Langdon is suitable for the job because he's an "exceptionally good leader, manager and grower of business," she adds. The change is effective Jan. 1.
