U.K. brewer offers online dating service in pubs

For those too shy to attempt to pick up someone in a pub, a British brewer is offering a long-distance service. Allied Domecq Leisure, a division of the Allied Domecq drinks conglomerate, is installing electronic dating services in eight of its 200 pubs in the U.K.

Developed by Allied Domecq and interactive media specialist CHBi, the interactive videophone system called Xchange allows customers to link onto a live network of potential partners and, says Allied, "to enjoy some face-to-face flirting with customers in other pubs," even outside the U.K.
