U.K. publisher's women's Web site sponsors U.K. broadcasts of Ally McBeal

LONDON--Beme.Com, the new women's Web site, has announced a multimillion-dollar deal to sponsor broadcasts of U.S. TV show "Ally McBeal''on the U.K.'s Channel 4.

The deal was negotiated by specialist sponsorship agency SSP, working alongside Walker Media, Beme.com's media planning and buying agency.

Beme.com, which launches in February, is backed by IPC Magazines, one of the largest publishers of women's magazines in Europe. IPC publishes three of the U.K.'s top five women's weeklies: Woman, Woman's Own and Woman's Weekly, plus the U.K.'s No. 2 fashion monthly, Marie Claire.

Beme.com is the women's network brand from IPC Electric, IPC's newly formed Internet business. In September 1999, IPC announced an investment of $40 million in online developments.
