UBS appoints Publicis to global account

ZURICH -- Switzerland's largest bank, UBS, has picked Publicis to handle its prestigious $20 million global ad account, following a six-month-long pitch.

The French agency network's Zurich office beat competition from two incumbent agencies, Advico Young & Rubicam and Weber Hodel Schmid, both also Zurich. Weber Hodel Schmid previously worked for Schweizerische Bankverein, with whom UBS merged last fall.

A fourth agency, Bosch & Butz, a Zurichbased arm of the Lowe & Partners network, was dropped from the review earlier.

In the U.S. and Latin America, Hill Holiday/Altshiller, New York, runs the business, which is not included in the review.

UBS Media and Communications Director Hans Heinrich Goetz will not disclose the international budget, but the bank is expected to invest around $20 million in the campaign.

New advertising from Publicis will kick off in Switzerland first, and then roll out globally with TV and print ads.
