United debuts self-boarding machines

United Airlines' West Coast-based Shuttle by United debuts self-boarding machines--similar to bank ATMs--this week at San Francisco and Los Angeles International Airports. At check-in, passengers who have already purchased an electronic ticket identify themselves with their frequent flyer card or credit card, select their seats through an on-screen chart and receive a receipt-like boarding pass.
