UPC to launch TV channels in Sweden

STOCKHOLM--Dutch media giant United & PhilipsCommunications says it plans to launch eight commercial TV stations in Sweden.

UPC's goal is to offer new cable TV channels andincrease distribution capacity by acquiring Swedishcable networks. UPS is expected to bid for statetelcom Telia's cable TV network.

In March, UPC acquired a controlling share inTVNorge, Norway's third biggest commercial TV channel, when it bought SBS Broadcasting of Luxembourg.

UPC is Europe's largest cable TV company, providing cable services to more than six million households.
