UPS expected to announce new e-mail service

Published on .

United Parcel Service will announce a new encrypted e-mail service the week of March 2 that will let users scan and deliver documents over the Web, said industry insiders. The service, which reportedly will make use of software from a company called Tumbleweed, is an attempt to go head-to-head with Federal Express' overnight letter delivery service, the insiders said. Ammirati Puris Lintas, New York, is said to be named as agency to develop the campaign for the service. The service is expected to be announced at a press briefing March 4. A UPS spokeswoman would not comment, other than to say "Tune into the teleconference."
