V-chip shift

Published on .

The V-chip apparently won't be covering TV commercials separately from programming, at least if the TV industry's plan is followed. Jack Valenti, president-CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America said the ratings system being developed by his group and TV executives and related technology is still being put together. But he said there are no plans to separately rate TV spots. Mr. Valenti also said that sports and news programming won't be rated and that the group hopes to rate a series and then only those shows in the series that depart from the normal. Mr. Valenti said he expects to meet with advertisers to discuss the ratings.
