Vaseline settle FTC ad complaint

Unilever today agreed to settle Federal Trade Commission charges its ad claims that Vaseline Intensive Care antibacterial hand lotion "stops germs longer than washing alone'' and "stops germs for hours'' lacked substantiation. A proposed agreement bars any further claims unless Unilever can provide reliable scientific evidence. McCann-Erickson Worldwide, New York, created the advertising.
