NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Verizon Communications today announced that Janet Keeler, senior vice president for brand management and marketing communications, is retiring.

A spokesman could not confirm when Ms. Keeler is stepping down.

Jody Bilney, formerly president of consumer markets in Verizon's Retail Markets Group, will replace Ms. Keeler. In addition to managing the company's advertising and marketing efforts, she'll also be responsible for building the Verizon brand globally.

Ms. Keeler, who led marketing efforts when Bell Atlantic Corp. and GTE Corp. merged to form Verizon last year, began her career at the Baby Bell known as NYNEX in 1994. She remained on board as NYNEX merged with Bell Atlantic in 1997. Prior to her career in the turbulent telecom sector, Ms. Keeler was executive vice president, managing director at Bcom3 Group's N.W. Ayer & Partners, New York. -- Tobi Elkin
