VIDEO: "Anchorwoman" Crashes Hollywood Fluff into TV Journalism

A Real Texas News Operation Becomes a Fox Reality Show

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- "Anchorwoman," the new Fox reality show that collides real TV journalism with big blond gobs of Hollywood fluff, makes its debut tonight, and here's the news: It's really bad. The program stars Lauren Jones, an aspiring actress and former swimsuit model and WWE diva. Here, she's recruited to an early evening anchor position by the desperate general manager of a ratings-challenged CBS affiliate station in Tyler, Texas. The show, which has already drawn scathing criticism from the national Society of Professional Journalists, follows the conflicts between the working journalists and the Paris Hilton-like bimbo they are forced to integrate into their daily news operations. In this video interview, Ad Age TV Editor Brian Steinberg predicts a large audience for the first episode and a rapid drop off after that.
