Media Buyers Peg CW's New 'Gossip Girl' Show as a Hit

NEW YORK ( -- Media buyers peg the CW's new "Gossip Girl" as a hit likely to pull in the much-coveted young-women and female-teen demographic, according to Ad Age Television Editor Brian Steinberg in this edition of Media Reviews for Media People. The CW show, which had its debut Aug. 19, is set in Manhattan's tony Upper East Side and tracks a group of wealthy teenagers jockeying for social status, sexual conquests and relief from boredom as well as parents too busy to give them anything but money. The story is told by an unidentified blogger and features characters using dozens of mobile communications devices -- a fact that has already caused at least one major telecom to sign a product-placement deal for future episodes.
