Virginia to build interactive telco network

Bell Atlantic-Virginia has begun building a high-speed interactive telecommunications network, dubbed Access Virginia, to link schools, government offices, libraries and other public institutions with a backbone of broadband optical fiber that will transmit voice, data and interactive video. Initially five universities will be linked to the network including Old Dominion University, Virginai Tech, New River Community College, Blue Ridge Community College and the Northern Virgina Graduate Center. Access Virginia plans to include Internet access, data sharing and interactive distance learning.
