Dutch publishing giant VNU NV today announced it was retaining investment banking firms Merrill Lynch & Co., Deutsche Bank AG and Amro Holding NV to aid in the sale of its consumer magazines and educational publishing arm. The company told Bloomberg that it would use the proceeds of the sales to finance its $2.3 billion acquisition of AC Nielsen Corp. VNU's consumer magazines are all located in Europe, and the sale will not affect its higher-profile American magazine titles like Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter.
