VW TO HELP CELEBRATE MTV'S 20TH ANNIVERSARY

(July 31, 2001) -- Volkswagen of America is a key on-air sponsor of MTV's 20th birthday broadcast Aug. 1.

The auto maker gets four 30-second ad slots and one billboard during the airing of MTV20: Live and Almost Legal from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on MTV and MTV2. VW also gets 28 more 30-second spots throughout the day on the music cable network.

Havas Advertising's Arnold Worldwide, Boston, handles VW, which will park a Beetle outside the anniversary event being held at Mannhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom.

VW is also a primary advertiser on MTV's reality program The Real World for the 2002 season. VW donated several of its revamped EuroVans for use by the cast and production crew taping the show for four months through November in Chicago. The show's 11th season premiers in January. -- Jean Halliday
