Washington Mutual takes Home

Washington Mutual, Seattle, the nation's largest thrift, agreed to buy H.F. Ahmanson & Co., Irwindale, Calif., for about $10 billion in stock. Washington Mutual will put its brand name on the various banks. They are Ahmanson's Home Savings and recently acquired Coast Savings, and Washington Mutual's previously acquired American Savings and Great Western Bank. McCann-Erickson Worldwide, Seattle, handles Washington Mutual. TBWA Chiat/Day, Venice, Calif., has Home.
