WCJ opens shop in India

HONG KONG -- Young & Rubicam's direct marketing network Wunderman Cato Johnson has expanded its Asian network with two offices in India in Bangalore and Chennai. The offices are WCJ's first in India.

The Chennai agency will work initially on Citibank business, while the Bangalore agency's charter client is IBM. With combined business, WCJ starts out as India's third largest direct marketing agency with annual capitalized billings of $6 million.

The entry into India closely follows WCJ's arrival as the first independent direct marketing agency to operate in China.

WCJ is part of the Rediffusion Dentsu Young & Rubicam group of companies in India. There are 22 WCJ staff in India and services offered include direct marketing, database consulting and telemarketing.

The Indian operations are run by Chief Operating Officer G. Ajay Row, who has 14 years experience in agencies and five years on the client side of the business.
