Online advertising rates continue to level off, with average cost-per-thousand-impressions (CPM) rates remaining nearly the same in 1999 as the previous year--they fell 0.63% by yearend 1999 to $33.75, according to AdKnowledge's 1999 Online Advertising Report Year-In-Review (www.adknowledge.com/update/oar_yir99.pdf). For the year, average CPMs were down 4%, compared to a 6% decline in 1998. The report also shows that the number of sites seeking advertising has increased dramatically, fueled by the growth of e-commerce. The AdKnowledge report is a compilation of 1999 online advertising statistics pulled from more than 3,000 Web sites.
