Web privacy legislation sought

Declaring that simply requiring Web sites to disclose their privacy policies isn't enough, consumer groups today called on federal and state legislators to sign a privacy pledge that calls for stronger legislation and "independent" enforcement of privacy curbs. Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the consumer group Electronic Privacy Information Center, said that Congress needs to set some safeguards into law and then let states increase the safeguards if they feel a necessity.
