Webvan to buy HomeGrocer for $1.2 billion

Online grocery service Webvan Group agreed to buy rival HomeGrocer.com in an all-stock deal valued at $1.2 billion. The combined service will reach 13 U.S. urban areas by the end of 2000, including Atlanta; Chicago; Dallas; Los Angeles; Portland, Ore.; and San Francisco. Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, is HomeGrocer's agency of record, while Publicis & Hal Riney, San Francisco, handles Webvan's advertising.
