Weinhard's beer returns to Riney

Published on .

The Henry Weinhard's beer account is returning to Hal Riney, whose San Francisco agency handled the brand in the late 1970s. Weinhard's, Portland, Ore., acquired by Miller Brewing Co. from Stroh Brewery Co. in late April, was assigned to Publicis & Hal Riney, San Francisco. The brand received only about $239,000 in advertising last year, according to Competitive Media Reporting, but spending is expected to increase under Miller. Print, radio and outdoor ads will support the Pacific Northwest campaign. Incumbent W.B. Doner & Co., Southfield, Mich., did not pitch the account.
