Western gets BellSouth media

Published on .

BellSouth Corp. Thursday awarded Western International Media, Los Angeles, its estimated $180 million-plus media buying account. The selection was a disappointment to the Omnicom Group, which recently acquired Creative Media, New York, in hopes of winning the prized account. Long Haymes Carr, Winston-Salem, N.C., and Tucker Wayne & Co., Atlanta, also participated in the review. Merkley Newman Harty, another New York-based Omnicom shop, handles creative work for all telecommunications advertising for BellSouth. Long Haymes Carr handles creative for its personal communications services and Tucker Wayne handles its corporate branding work. "We chose Western due to a combination of price, media clout and breadth of services they can provide us," said William Pate, BellSouth's VP-corporate advertising.
