Whitaker to be 'Newsweek' editor

Newsweek, New York, named Managing Editor Mark Whitaker to be editor in chief, succeeding Maynard Parker, who died of complications from leukemia last month. Mr. Whitaker had been managing editor since January 1996. Two new managing editors were also named: Washington Bureau Chief Ann McDaniels and National Affairs Editor Jon Meacham. Ms. McDaniels will continue to split her time between New York and Washington, while Mr. Meacham remains based in New York.
