(June 20, 2001) -- Matthew Seiler, managing director of the New York office of Wieden & Kennedy, has resigned, citing philosophical differences. He will be replaced by Buz Sawyer, president of the now-closed San Francisco office of Interpublic Group of Cos.' Lowe Lintas & Partners.

Mr. Sawyer, 47, had been with Wieden & Kennedy in Portland working on the Nike account and helped found the agency's Amsterdam office in 1992, serving as its managing partner. Mr. Sawyer's creative partner in the Lowe San Francisco office, Creative Director Vince Engle, has joined Leagas Delaney's San Francisco shop.

Mr. Seiler said he "wanted to take" the Wieden New York office "to a different place." He said the current environment is a "fascinating one and signals all kinds of opportunities to do things differently than what made the Portland headquarters comfortable." -- Alice Z. Cuneo
