Wild named chairman of WPP holdings in Australia

SYDNEY--Geoff Wild has been appointed Australian chairman of WPP Holdings responsible for the communicationgroup's interests in Australia, whichinclude indirect and direct stakes ofabout 40% in ad agency Singleton Ogilvy& Mather. Other WPP interests in Australiainclude J. Walter Thompson Co., EthnicCommunications, market research firm YannCampbell Hoare Wheeler and public relaTions outfit Hill & Knowlton.

Mr. Wild was previously chairman ofOgilvy & Mather before its merger withJohn Singleton Advertising six months ago.Last week WPP also acquired 10.96% ofSingleton Group Ltd, the Australian majority owner of Singleton Ogilvy & Mather.The shares became available following thedecision by 13 current and previous Singleton executives to exercise their share options. Singleton Group Managing DirectorRussell Tate says the acquisition was avote of confidence in the organization."Clearly they're happy with how things areprogressing and may be interested in anyother investments Singleton Group may take,"Mr. Tate says.
