Windows 98 gets soft launch

Microsoft Corp., Redmond, Wash., will allow PC makers and retailers to sell Windows 98-based PCs before the official June 25 introduction, a move that would seem to take some zip out of the formal launch since the product will already be on the market. However, Microsoft said June 25 will remain the first day for stores to sell retail boxes of the new operating system.
