Wireless review down to 3

Published on .

SBC Communications and BellSouth Corp., which are merging their wireless operations, selected three finalists for their $170 million to $250 million wireless account. Incumbents WestWayne, Atlanta, which handles BellSouth, and GSD&M, Austin, Texas, which handles SBC, both made the cut from the initial nine shops asked to participate, said executives close to the review. BBDO Worldwide, Atlanta, also is a finalist. Separately, fellow telco Verizon Communications, New York, is moving along with its $300 million agency consolidation. Competing agencies were asked to present ideas this month and then present again during the third week of October. A decision is expected by the end of October.
