Paul Woolmington is leaving Young & Rubicam's The Media Edge, where he was worldwide vice-chairman and strategic officer. Woolmington was appointed president of The Media Edge in September 1998, but was relegated to the global strategic position in November 1999 when Beth Gordon, head of Media Edge North America, became chairman and chief executive of the global network.

The future of The Media Edge has been questioned since Y&R's acquisition by WPP last year. WPP's main media network, MindShare, has strong planning and buying capabilities, while The Media Edge is considered to have limited buying resources.

"Beth Gordon and I mutually agreed that I will part company with TME," said Mr. Woolmington. "It will be sad to leave TME and at the same time I am proud of our achievements." Mr. Woolmington added that he plans to move on to a new, unidentified venture outside of WPP. "I am really excited about this new opportunity. It will be groudbreaking."

Before moving to New York to join The Media Edge, Woolmington was worldwide media director of Ammirati Puris Lintas in London.
