WPP Group, London, acquired two high-tech marketing consulting firms, Seattle-based MSI Channel Research & Consulting and Boston-based Charles River Strategies. The two, with combined revenues of $10 million and billings of $70 million, will remain independent under WPP's Specialist Communications Group.

WPP last week also acquired Smith & Jones Communications, Henley on Thames, a U.K. business-to-business agency specializing in high-tech. Smith & Jones also will become part of Specialist Communications, where it will be the cornerstone of a network focused on high-tech. With the new additions, the group's high-tech billings grow to over $250 million.
