(April 3, 2001) -- Holding companies WPP Group and Cordiant Communications Group announced today three acquisitions of marketing services companies in the U.S. and U.K.

WPP acquired Glendinning Management Consultants Ltd., a U.K. sales and marketing management consultancy whose clients include Coca-Cola Co., GlaxoSmithKline, Heinz, Kimberly-Clark, Nestle and Unilever. WPP's Y&R Advertising also acquired SicolaMartin, Austin, Texas, a technology agency with clients including Novell, Compaq Computers and Vignette Corp. Terms were not disclosed.

Meanwhile, Cordiant acquired Gallagher & Kelly Public Relations Ltd., Dublin, a business communications agency with clients including Coca-Cola, Dell and Microsoft Corp. That deal includes an initial payment of 2,226,907 Cordiant shares worth $8 million and additional payments of up to $13.6 million, based on Gallagher & Kelly's performance through December 2003. -- Mercedes Cardona
