The Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition
is expected to announce in the coming week that more than 70,000 unique users now pay for the online edition of that newspaper. The newspaper brand launched less than a year ago with a bold business model that would charge all users annual subscription prices of $29.95 (for print subscribers) or $49.95 after an introductory period. While shortly after the paid format went into effect, the service made a deal to give Microsoft Internet Explorer users free access.
