XM Satellite Radio Inc. is expected to announce Tuesday that is has awarded its anticipated $100 million advertising account to TBWA/Chiat/Day
, Playa del Rey. McCann-Erickson, and Wieden & Kennedy, both New York, also participated in the review conducted by consultant and former advertising executive Jeff Atlas. The company, which will sell its radios through Circuit City, Best Buy and other retailers, offers a $9.95 a month radio band with 100 channels of music, news and programming. Competitor Sirius Satellite Radio recently awarded its advertising account to TBWA
/Chiat/Day Omnicom sibling shop Goodby
, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco. Sirius, offering 50 channels at the same $9.95 price, will be factory installed in DaimlerChrysler cars and trucks, including Mercedes and Jeep, as well as Ford vehicles such as Volvo and Jaguar.
