Y&R to join S&P 500 stock index

Standard & Poor's said Young & Rubicam, New York, will join Interpublic Group of Cos. and Omnicom Group as a member of its Standard & Poor's 500 Index as of Jan. 5. Y&R, which reported worldwide 1998 gross income of $1.66 billion, is being added to the index to replace General Instrument Corp., which is being acquired by Motorola in early January. Y&R was ranked the fifth largest ad organization in the world by Advertising Age last April.
