Young & Rubicam, which had worked on Colgate's local suncare brands, UV, Reefand Savlon, for the past five years, has lost the estimated $3 million account,now with Boots' roster agency McCann-Erickson Sydney.
Although it sold the brand, Colgate has retained the rights to thecontroversial ads created by Y&R, preventing the new owner from screening themagain. The ads are credited with helping UV hit double-digit growth in afalling sunscreen market.
Colgate pulled the ads, which depicted black men joking about white people'slack of melanin, following only five complaints to Australia's AdvertisingStandards Council. Colgate later also prevented the production company thatworked on the ads from entering the work at last week's Cannes advertisingfestival.
